Duty to the readers:
If the books are not available in the library, the librarian should either purchase or acquire them on inter-library loan or at least guide the readers as to wherefrom they can find out the requisite material. Further, it depends upon the intelligence of the librarian as to how he guides the readers.
Duty of the books:
The duty of a librarian towards the book is two-fold such as preservation of the book and putting it to maximum use. The First Law of Library Science is‘Books are for use and the Third Law is ‘Every book its readers’. So librarian is called a match-maker of the beautiful bride-the book, and the anxious bride-groom-the reader.
Duty to the profession:
A librarian should never use disparaging words against his/her staffs. Librarians shall treat each other with
respect, courtesy, and sincerity and shall
avoid maligning the reputation,
competence, and capability of their
colleagues
Duty to Himself:
It means Librarians shall strive to improve, enhance, and upgrade their professional knowledge, skills, and competencies through formal and informal way. They shall not use any unfair means to gain professional advancement.
Beside these librarian must follow-
1. Librarians shall not assist in the
unauthorized practice of librarianship.
2. The Liberians will provide equality among their colleagues and workers.
3. Librarians shall choose suppliers and
publishers exclusively on the basis of the
quality of goods, costs, and services.
2. Librarians shall refuse all personal
gratuities.
Conclusion:
A librarian to be successful professional must keep burning the ‘Seven lamps of conduct.’ For proper purpose librarians shall render impartial service to all library users regardless of their race, beliefs, age, gender, or social status.
